"Song From Under The Floorboards"

Feb. 8 1980: Magazine released the single "Song From Under The Floorboards" (b-side is "Twenty Years Ago"), in advance of their third Virgin Records studio album, 'The Correct Use of Soap'; the song found a disturbed-sounding Howard Devoto intoning "I am angry, I am ill, and I'm as ugly as sin" - an homage to Dostoyevsky's 'Notes from the Underground', which opens with the lines, "I am a sick man. I am a spiteful man. I am an unattractive man"
